# Add a Countdown Timer to Your Text Label

Creating a sense of urgency can help increase conversions. With a countdown timer, you can motivate shoppers to act fast, especially during sales or limited-time offers.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to add a countdown timer to your **text label**. You can also apply this method to a **text badge**.

### 1. Add a Countdown Timer

To add a countdown timer, insert the variable `{countdown}` into your text label content.

#### Steps:

* Go to **Text Label Editor** → **Style** tab → **Content** section.
* Under **Rich Text**, click **Add Variable** → select **Countdown.**

* The `{countdown}` variable will be added at the cursor’s position.

  <figure><img src="https://4175789379-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9hvZuxfHGxWaI6LN7rVY%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-3036df6135cca8c2313e8585efea94487ef61721%2Fimage%20(51).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once the variable is added, you need to set the countdown duration:

* Below the Rich Text box, click the **{countdown timer} settings** button.

  <figure><img src="https://4175789379-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9hvZuxfHGxWaI6LN7rVY%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-77b5479e0fe0d96298be5d371309a14a9f809f13%2Fimage%20(53).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
* A settings card will appear with countdown options.

  <figure><img src="https://4175789379-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9hvZuxfHGxWaI6LN7rVY%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-50b0441a8650cdd738cae99f6a81ca95449edb8d%2Fimage%20(54).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### 2. Choose a Countdown Type

There are three types of countdown timers you can use:

#### a. Countdown to a Specific Date and Time

This is the simplest option. Set a **start time** and an **end time**:

<figure><img src="https://4175789379-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9hvZuxfHGxWaI6LN7rVY%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2bf71a422c8c0c796664b91a5318f5eaf4505c03%2Fimage%20(55).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Start time**: When the countdown should begin.\
  Before this time, the timer remains static.
* **End time**: When the countdown ends.\
  After this point, the timer either disappears or shows `00:00`, depending on your settings.

You can set both the date and time precisely.

#### b. Run Daily at Specific Times

This timer repeats every day during a specific time range.

<figure><img src="https://4175789379-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9hvZuxfHGxWaI6LN7rVY%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2b8b8e5f2beed4a027cd75a6e82399b7803a5621%2Fimage%20(56).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Example:**

* Start time: 3:00 PM
* End time: 5:00 PM\
  → The timer will count down from 3:00 to 5:00 PM every day.

Great for flash deals or daily promos.

#### c. Run in Custom Intervals

This option lets you set a recurring countdown with flexible timing.

<figure><img src="https://4175789379-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9hvZuxfHGxWaI6LN7rVY%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-7e7657c5bdd55cfa1a7967215f1a49f746068f5f%2Fimage%20(47).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Example:**

* Start: July 18
* Countdown length: 1 day
* Break: 7 days\
  → The timer counts down for 1 day, pauses for 7 days, then restarts. This cycle repeats continuously.

Useful for weekly drops or campaigns.

### 3. Customize Countdown Style

In the **Countdown Style** card, you can:

* Choose your preferred time format (e.g., `HH:MM:SS`, `HH:MM`, etc.)
* Define what happens after the countdown ends (hide the timer or show zero)

  <figure><img src="https://4175789379-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9hvZuxfHGxWaI6LN7rVY%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-ec94f558cce5c5ac2ff24c78622742e4a4aac052%2Fimage%20(58).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### 4. Pro Tips

#### a. Use the Schedule feature to set when your label appears or disappears.

This is especially helpful when coordinating with flash sales or event launches. To learn more, please refer to this article: [Schedule Conditions: Set Labels to Show at the Right Time](/setup-conditions/display-conditions/schedule-conditions-set-labels-to-show-at-the-right-time.md)

#### b. Save and check the result

After setting it up, click **Save** and check the result on your storefront.\
Make sure to review how the countdown timer appears on your store, across different pages and devices, to ensure it's working correctly.
